Experienced Electrical Technician
Starting Pay: $22–$27 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated skills
Black Bear Lock & Security is expanding our electrical services and is seeking an Electrical Technician to join our growing team. This position is ideal for an experienced electrician who enjoys hands-on field work and is looking for an opportunity to use their existing skills while continuing to learn and grow.
About the Position
This position will initially be as needed/part-time, with the potential for additional hours and full-time employment as our workload grows. You will primarily perform small residential and commercial electrical service and installation projects, including dedicated circuits, equipment disconnects, breaker and conductor changes, panel upgrades, troubleshooting, and other electrical service needs. You should be comfortable with performing work independently to meet or exceed the NC Electrical Code. Job training will be provided to become comfortable with our company’s procedures, policies and processes, but you should be comfortable with basic electrical service and installation upon hiring. Work will be performed throughout Buncombe, Macon, Jackson, and Haywood Counties.
While this position will primarily focus on electrical work, you may occasionally be scheduled to assist with security, access control, video surveillance, or other related projects. Training will be provided on the specific products and systems we install.
Typical Electrical Work May Include
- Electrical panel replacements and upgrades
- Breaker replacement and installation
- Conductor replacement and sizing changes
- Dedicated circuit installations
- Equipment disconnect installation
- Electrical equipment connections
- Branch circuit modifications
- Electrical troubleshooting and repair
- General electrical service work
- Reading electrical diagrams and equipment specifications
- Working alongside other trades and contractors
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Documenting completed work and job information using company technology
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on electrical experience
- Strong understanding of electrical installation practices
- Ability to safely perform electrical work with limited supervision
- Ability to troubleshoot and identify electrical problems
- Ability to read basic electrical diagrams and equipment specifications
- Good understanding of electrical safety and installation requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable personal vehicle for travel to job sites with mileage reimbursement
- Must provide basic electrical hand tools
- Must pass a background check
- Dependable, professional, and punctual
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Comfortable using technology, including an iPad and/or smartphone, to access work orders, document completed work, communicate with the office, and complete job documentation
- Willingness to learn and follow company procedures
- Willingness to continue developing electrical skills and knowledge
- Willingness to learn the specific products, equipment, and installation methods used by Black Bear Lock & Security
An electrical license is not required for this position. However, special trade skill certificates are considered.
Preferred, But Not Required:
- Experience with basic construction or repair work
- Ability to perform minor repairs such as drywall patching or other small finish repairs
- Experience working alongside other construction trades
- Experience with commercial or residential service work
- Interest in learning about security, low-voltage, access control, or video surveillance systems
